Nephrite doesn't know what to say. He lingers outside Mercury's room, where he can see her. She's laying on her bed, still resting after the fiasco in the audience chamber. He hates seeing her like that, the angry results of Beryl's punishment.
He can't be sure whether she knows he's there as he broods in the doorway, face contorted with the effort to restrain whatever it is he's feeling. He turns and leaves without a word, suddenly wondering whether it's more frustrating and humiliating to be pitied by a sailor senshi or to be pitying one.
When Mercury wakes up a few hours later, she finds a red cape spread over her like a blanket. She sits up quickly, but of course he isn't there. Her fingers trace the hem, find the very place where her stitches are still barely visible to mark where she'd repaired it for him.
What goes around, comes around, maybe.
